Catatonic

We have had cats all of our marriage.  My husband and I watched one napping on a chair.  Cat naps are the rule around here, rare is the time that all three are running on all cylinders.  That’s mealtime, and night. The rest of the time is chill.  I have to see a therapist and psychiatrist to get medication that relaxes me only one tenth of the time that cats rest and relax.

Big Pharma should study blood samples from cats.  What is running through their arteries?  It is obvious that their brains have an on and off switch.  Writing on my computer trips the on switch and I have to keep moving a cat’s twitching tail in order to type.  But, there is something really magic about their tranquility.  I’m sure there is more stress to the outdoor cat, that needs to hunt and avoid traffic and big dogs.  The indoor cats, well fed with love and catnip toys are the ones most triggered into tranquility.  When I am stressed I cannot knock it off the way that they do dozens of times a day.

I get anxious over everything going on in the world.  The cat laying almost on my keyboard could give a good god damn what is wrong with the world today.  Idiot president, atomic north Korea, too many people with guns…who cares?  Not a cat, that’s for sure.  We need to be just a little more cat like when we want to take it easy.  No alcohol, no tranquilizers, no anti-depressants…just cat blood and an on and off switch like theirs.
